Barman / Barista - Stellenbosch

Key Responsibilities:
  • Drink Preparation:
  • Prepare and serve a diverse range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, including cocktails, coffee, espresso, and specialty drinks.
  • Ensure consistency and quality in drink preparation and presentation.
  • Innovate and create new drink recipes and suggest beverage pairings.
Customer Service:
  • Greet and engage with guests in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Take beverage orders, provide recommendations based on guest preferences, and ensure guest satisfaction.
  • Address guest complaints and concerns with a positive attitude and resolve issues promptly.
Bar and Coffee Area Maintenance:
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the bar and coffee areas.
  • Ensure all equipment is clean, sanitized, and in proper working order.
  • Restock supplies, including glassware, ingredients, and garnishes.
Inventory Management:
  • Monitor inventory levels and assist with ordering supplies as needed.
  • Track and manage stock to minimize waste and ensure the availability of popular items.
  • Conduct regular inventory checks and report discrepancies to the manager.
  • Cash Handling:
  • Process guest payments accurately and efficiently.
  • Handle cash, and credit card transactions, and maintain a balanced cash register.
  • Ensure all transactions are recorded properly and follow cash handling procedures.
Compliance and Safety:
  • Adhere to all health and safety regulations, including food safety and sanitation standards.
  • Follow responsible alcohol service guidelines and check guest identification when necessary.
  • Report any safety hazards or maintenance issues to the manager.
Team Collaboration:
  • Work closely with other staff members to ensure smooth and efficient service.
  • Assist with training new staff on drink preparation and customer service standards.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute ideas for improving service and efficiency.
Qualifications:
  • Experience:
  • Previous experience as a barman, barista, or in a similar role preferred.
  • Experience in a hospitality or customer service environment is beneficial.
Skills:
  • Strong knowledge of drink preparation techniques and recipes.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality.
Certifications:
  • Food safety certification preferred.
  • Responsible alcohol service certification preferred.
Education:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy objects
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Work Environment:
  • Fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Regular exposure to hot and cold temperatures, cleaning chemicals, and beverage preparation equipment.
  • Collaborative work with other staff members to provide excellent guest service.
