The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting in preparing and setting explosives for mining operations, and following safety protocols and regulations to ensure the safety of personnel and equipment. • Identify the correct product application • Manage blasting crew at the working area • Identify Hazards and complete necessary documentation • Complete blast reports • Work with mine personnel on safety and quality issues • Attend meetings when necessary • Oversee charging of holes and blasting of blocks • Draw explosive from magazine • Transport explosives to blasting area • Measure and prime holes • Supervise blasting team closing holes • Tie up of blast • Placing of guards for blasting • Inspection of blasted area • Assist in the preparation and setting of explosives for mining operations • Follow all safety protocols and regulations to ensure a safe working environment • Maintain and operate blasting equipment in a safe and efficient manner • Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors to coordinate blasting activities • Monitor and inspect blast sites to ensure compliance with safety standards • Assist in the maintenance and repair of blasting equipment as needed • Keep accurate records of blasting activities and inventory of explosives • Participate in training and development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge in blasting techniques • Grade 12 • Valid Blasting Certificate • Knowledge of Opencast Mining • National Rock Breaking Certificate for Opencast • Code 8 or 10 driver's license • 1 - 3 years' experience of opencast blasting
