The Chief Ventilation Engineer is responsible for managing and implementation of the overall Ventilation and Refrigeration strategy for a mine, projects and JV's as applicable, as well as providing the Mine with specialist Ventilation and Refrigeration services and expertise, to ensure a safe and healthy work environment. Setting of mine / site specific ventilation standards. Ensure that environment conditions are designed to be safe and a system for monitoring is in place – Act 50 of 1991 Reg 2.16., including ventilation and refrigeration engineering systems. Establish system to understand and mitigate occupational and ergonomic hazards MHSA Sect 12. Ensure and assure legal compliance as well as a safe and healthy work environment, to ensure minimized pure risk, litigation exposure and adverse publicity Demonstrates safety leadership, sustainable development and Anglo American values. Reviews and agrees plans, designs and models for ventilation engineering on a mine. Provides ventilation engineering expertise to production team and conducts audits to ensure effective ventilation engineering practice. Manages resources to deliver section business targets. Ensures compliance with all relevant legal, environmental, occupational health and safety and risk management standards and leading practices. Develops, mentors and motivates effective operational teams. Establishes and maintains strong relationships with relevant stakeholders. Contributes to continuous improvement and asset optimisation initiatives for mining processes. Shaft ventilation and refrigeration standards. Audit shaft compliance to ventilation standards. Develop ventilation and refrigeration mine design in line with live of lease and operational requirements. Trend analysis of ventilation parameters, conditions. High level complex ventilation / refrigeration modeling. Identify, evaluate and control conditions that cause illness or adverse effects to persons. Audit compliance to standards, COP's. Mine audit protocols and standards. Disaster management programmes. Necessary skills development. Input into mining blueprint. Mine design Layouts. Cato technical systems for (Palladium/VUMA) ventilation occupational hygiene process. Occupational hygiene objectives and targets. Training of persons on occupational hazards. Incident investigation. HRD programme. Operational planning. Mandatory codes of practice. Day-to-day Ventilation/Occupational hygiene engineering best practice layouts. Interpret group strategy & guideline into systems, procedures and standards. Disaster recovery plan and response - Fire - Flooding - Explosions - Fan failure etc. Occupational hygiene programmes. Interprets group strategy and guidelines into systems and procedures. Best practice. Interpret legislation. Execute projects or audits needed in the Mine. Site specific health standards. Audits compliance to Group guidelines and standards. Calculation of air flow requirements for mine design purposes. Baseline risk assessment for ventilation purposes in adjunction with Occupational Hygiene and medicine requirements / measurements. Measures and monitors occupational hazards. Occupational hygiene reporting. Base line RA for occupational health purposes. Independent review of serious incidents and accidents. Represent mine on relevant hygiene forums. Sub-Appoint Shaft VOHE officers in terms of section 12 of MH&SA. Audit compliance to standards, COP's Legal requirement: Chamber of Mines (COM) Certificate in Mine Environmental Control Training or practical experience in: Occupational Health legislation - Management system formulation and implementation - Safety, Health and Environmental integration - Hazard identification and risk assessment - Extensive computer literacy in MS Office, SAP, - Palladium and other specialised technical programs (VUMA). Practical experience of at least 10 years in the Ventilation field and at least 5 years as Manager Ventilation. Experience in the development, implementation and evaluation of management systems and database formulation. Member of Mine Ventilation Society of South Africa. Sound knowledge pertaining to people management. Working knowledge of specialist Ventilation and Refrigeration computer simulation programs. Highly Competitive. Apply Now
