Compliance Officer for a Legal Firm - Johannesburg

This is a hybrid position based at our Johannesburg office, and the candidate will be required to work half-day. Ideally, we are seeking a semi-retired individual not seeking a full-time commitmentperhaps a stay-at-home mom or dadsomeone interested in a part-time role.

JOB PURPOSE

Oversee the Firms internal and regulatory compliance programs, and develop, implement, and maintain policies, guidelines, and procedures to ensure the Firm adheres to the requirements of all applicable laws and regulations, industry standards, and risk management practices. This role will support and advise finance and operations in the evaluation and development of effective compliance internal controls, monitoring-testing, issues management, program governance, and process improvements. To monitor and provide oversight on the adherence to compliance practices to ensure compliance risks are managed and reported. Understanding of POPI, PAIA and FICA required.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor''s degree in Law, Business Administration, or Finance.

Post Graduate Diploma: Risk Management or Compliance Management.

Compliance Institute of South Africa (CISA) - preferred, not essential.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

Demonstrate a working knowledge of applicable compliance regulations and laws, industry trends, emerging issues and ability to understand its applicability to risk management strategies including the scoping of risk evaluations.

Competent in implementing systems and procedures.

Probing and analytical skills.

Communication skills to facilitate understanding of complex regulatory and compliance standards.

Integrity and ethical decision-making.

Detail oriented with good organizational skills.

Good time management skills; ability to prioritize multiple demands/projects and meet deadlines.

Self-motivated.

EXPERIENCE

Previous work experience in similar role for an Attorney firm. At least three to five years in same role

Knowledge and understanding of compliance standards and policies, audit techniques, regulatory issues.

JOB PROFILE

Develop, implement and maintain the Firms overall compliance strategy and programs with initial focus on FICA and POPIA.

Develop, implement and maintain policies to meet organizational and regulatory compliance standards.

Work independently and with others on risk-based monitoring and evaluation activities, including risk assessment, monitoring and testing, analysis of findings, and reporting to ensure effective, sustainable risk management processes exist.

Develop and review policies and procedures and associated compliance and compliance risk programs to ensure consistency with current applicable regulations and laws.

Provide advice, guidance and insight to Mancom and staff regarding new/emerging compliance issues.

Advise Mancom on the establishment of controls to mitigate compliance risk.

Provide assistance to Mancom in the formulation of forms and disclosure documents for compliance with all policies and procedures.

Conduct and arrange training sessions for employees on key regulatory changes and updates.

Ensure the Firm functions in a legal and ethical manner whilst meeting its goals.

Prepare all external compliance-related reports and manage the submission thereof.

Assist Mancom to ensure appropriate contingency plans are in place that set guidelines on how to respond to possible compliance breaches.

Continual self-development and learning to stay up to date with relevant legislation and regulations.

Manage all other ad hoc compliance related activities of the firm as and when requested
