Large well known food manufacturer is looking for a Leader within their Instrumentation, Control and Electrical Engineering Maintenance department. Eastrand – Gauteng Market related salary The purpose of this role is to provide hands-on expertise and leadership to the engineering maintenance staff, to ensure optimal machine efficiency, reliability, and availability. Safety, Health. Environment, Risk and Quality (SHEQ) Management • Support the site to ensure that all safety, health and environment legislative requirements are complied with. • Conduct risk assessments in own area of responsibility. • Support the develop and adherence to standard operating procedures and safe maintenance procedures. • Ensure that health and safety requirements are adhere to with regards to specifying new equipment. • Ensures that process related safety equipment is in good working order (e.g. PRVs, etc) • Manage contractors daily to ensure that correct standards of work are delivered and agreed delivery timelines are maintained. • Ensure calibration of relevant equipment, and that records of the calibration are kept. Maintenance Management • Improve and maintain an effective planned preventative maintenance system and oversee major repairs of breakdowns. • Determines material, equipment, and supplies to be used and ensures that these are ordered and available at the work site, in conjunction with the input of the Maintenance Planner. • Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components, using test equipment and hand tools, to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem. • Optimise process control loops. • Ensure all instrumentation and relevant electrical equipment and installations are maintained or installed in accordance with statutory requirements and business needs. • Ensure efficient and cost-effective maintenance to all Instrument/control and electrical equipment by assembling, installing, testing, inspecting and maintaining instruments, electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures, using hand tools and power tools. • To be pro-active in identifying potential faults/breakdowns before they occur by inspecting Instrument / electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards and defects. • Liase with different stakeholders in various projects of i.e Utilities. Production, SHEQ and R&D. • Lead team to ensure that all breakdowns are attended to in a cost-effective manner. • To ensure the continued good condition of all equipment by: Repair and/or replace Instrument/ electrical equipment (RTD's , thermocouples, Pressure, Level & Flow Transmitters, level switches, pressure gauges & Control Valves. • Ensure that all tools are kept safe and in good working condition as well as updating the tool (Instrument Tool register). • Performs work inspections (PJOs) and checks for completeness and checks for completeness of tasks. • Continuously drive improved OEE and asset utilization, jointly with other functions. • Annual shutdown planning and work control. • Ensures the neatness of the workplaces (5S). Financial Management • Provide inputs to factory budget. • Manage and control maintenance expenditures against approved budget. • Accountable for cost saving initiatives through focus improvement projects and maintenance activities. • Provide input into CapEx documentation considering return on investment, resourcing and sustainability requirements. Project Management • Give input to the Project Engineer (This could be Process Engineers, other Superintendents, Process Engineering Manager, Engineering managers or an external Project Manager) on the feasibility of projects by analysing technology, resources needs, and factory operations demands to ensure that the project is feasible. • Work with the Project Engineer to ensure that the requirements of internal customers are met and to prepare accurate project specifications for implementation of projects. • Compilation and review of design and engineering documentation. • Prepare capex motivation for major instrumentation and control maintenance. • Ensure necessary manpower is available to smoothly implement projects on time and within the agreed budget. • Ensure that process change control documentation with regards to all equipment and plant changes are completed and keep records for audit purposes. • Ensure that all project work is carried out and completed to the highest level of workmanship quality and to food safety requirements. Spares Stock Control • Control the distribution of equipment and supplies amongst artisans. • Ensure that nonstock items are sourced and ordered for long range maintenance. • Assist on Bi-annual basis to verify the correctness of engineering stock levels and advise on correction where needed. • Regular communication with the Engineering Store regarding inventory/spares requirement and availability. Team Leadership • Management of the Instrumentation team with regards to HR/IR issues. • Management of the day-to-day activities and out puts of all team members. • Train and mentor maintenance team to improve performance and reduce downtime. • Be available on call-out and work on weekends or when necessary to ensure optimal performance of the team and effective maintenance of equipment. • Participate in daily meetings in Engineering, Processing and Operation. • Manages the Instrumentation team to facilitate the attainment of KPI's and monitor the performance of individuals in attaining KPI's and institute corrective action if necessary. • Plan and manage leave roster and register. • Partners with HR to recruit staff who are technically capable and fit in with company culture to ensure that the engineering team has the correct resources to maintain the facility. Information and Data Management • Ensure team members accurately and regularly capture data onto the quality, maintenance and operations management system to enable access to reliable data and reporting for trend analysis and decision making. • Share relevant data with management teams to enable reliable business decision-making. • An N4-N6 Instrumentation or Electrical Engineering (Trade test is a must) or National Diploma Electrical Engineering (Light Current). • Management / Project Management qualification will be advantageous. • Knowledge of FMCG production environment (Margarine production or bottling operation experience, refrigeration plant and robot palletizing operations will and advantage). • Knowledge in process instrumentation, VSD's, PLC's (Allan Bradley) and SCADA/HMI and Wonderware ArchestrA servers. • Thorough understanding of the of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and regulations as applied to industrial control systems and instrumentation. • Computer literacy and proficiency in MS Office is essential. • Sound ability to read and interpret technical drawings such as P&IDs, electrical schematic and wiring diagrams. • Knowledge of different types of applicable machinery and tools. • 8 years trade experience. • 2 years supervisory role experience will be an advantage. • Driver's license essential.
