Matric, Trade Tested as a Fitter & Turner
Minimum of 4 - 5 years experience
Additional courses related to Project Management, Maintenance, Design, and equipment-specific
training will be advantageous.
Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings, diagrams, and manuals.
Knowledge of various hand and power tools used in maintenance and repair work.
Relevant work experience as a Maintenance Fitter and Turner or in a similar role.
Equipment Maintenance: Conduct regular inspections, maintenance, and repairs on mechanical
equipment and machinery, such as vacuum pumps, glue pump and production line equipment. This
involves troubleshooting issues, diagnosing problems, and implementing appropriate solutions to
minimize downtime and optimize equipment performance.
Preventive Maintenance: Make use of developed and implemented preventive maintenance
schedules and procedures to ensure the ongoing reliability and safety of equipment. This includes
performing routine maintenance tasks, such as lubrication, calibration, and adjustment of components,
as well as replacing worn-out parts and conducting routine inspections.
Equipment Installation and Commissioning: Assist in the installation, setup, and commissioning of
new equipment and machinery. This may involve assembling components, aligning parts, connecting
electrical and mechanical systems, and performing test runs to ensure proper functionality.
Equipment Repair: Respond to equipment breakdowns and malfunctions promptly to minimize
production disruptions. Diagnose faults and mechanical failures, disassemble and reassemble
machinery, replace defective parts, and restore equipment to operational condition using hand and
power tools. The Fitter and Turner should also be competent to use the workshops lathe to machine
and fabricate critical spares that are needed to repair production machines in the factory.
