Fitter and Turner (Machinist) - Midrand

We are seeking a well qualified, skilled and experienced Fitter and Turner (Machinist) to join our team based in Olifantsfontein South Africa. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, mechanical aptitude, and a commitment to quality and safety. This role involves operating precision machinery, performing under pressure in a production environment, and ensuring all work meet stringent quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Machining and Fabrication:
    • Set up and operate lathes, milling machines, and other precision tools to manufacture axle and related components.
  • Quality Assurance:
    • Conduct thorough inspections and quality checks to ensure all parts meet industry standards and specifications.
    • Maintain accurate records of inspection results and work performed.
  • Assembly:
    • Assemble mechanical components to form completed axles.
    • Test assembled axles to ensure they function correctly and meet performance requirements.
  • Safety and Compliance:
    • Follow all safety protocols to prevent accidents and injuries.
    • Ensure all work complies with industry regulations and standards.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    • Identify areas for improvement in manufacturing processes and implement effective solutions.
    • Stay updated with new techniques and tools in the field and participate in training programs.
Important Skills:
  • Technical Proficiency:
    • Expertise in operating lathes, milling machines, and other precision machinery.
    • Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings and blueprints.
    • Skilled in using precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
  • Mechanical Aptitude:
    • Experience in assembling and disassembling mechanical components.
    • Ability to diagnose and repair mechanical issues efficiently.
    • Understanding of different metals and materials used in manufacturing.
  • Quality Control:
    • Attention to detail to ensure all parts meet the required specifications and quality standards.
    • Conduct thorough inspections and quality checks.
  • Safety Awareness:
    • Familiarity with workplace safety regulations and practices.
    • Proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Problem-Solving:
    • Ability to identify issues and develop effective solutions.
    • Innovative thinking to improve processes and reduce downtime.
  • Communication:
    • Ability to work effectively with engineers, supervisors, and other team members.
    • Maintain accurate records of work performed and parts used.
Previous Experience:
  • Relevant Industry Experience: Previous experience in manufacturing, especially related to heavy industrial equipment or automotive components.
  • Proven Track Record: Demonstrated ability to perform tasks similar to those listed above in a previous role.
