The General Site Manager will direct and control all business activities relating to a specific manufacturing site, from sourcing and managing raw materials through to the manufacturing process, quality control, warehousing, and final distribution to the Company's customer base. Take responsibility for related Admin, HR, IR, Maintenance, Asset Management, Risk Management, Facilities Management, Health and Safety, as well as Site Security. Develop annual site budgets and take responsibility/accountability for the management and control of all site costs. Plan and direct all site activities through effective engagement and planning with your Management team. Overall responsibility for managing plant, premises and building facilities, and continuous improvement through lean initiatives, as well as improving plant efficiencies. This includes managing the workforce, maintaining discipline, as well as developing staff and building a dynamic team. Provide training and ensure multiskilling of staff and manage operational risk, and provide and maintain a secure and safe working environment. The successful incumbent will be used to working on a big manufacturing site with 800 employees. Only candidates who have ALL qualifying criteria will be considered. Key Responsibilities • Manage, oversee and coordinate plant efficiencies to ensure they (plant efficiencies) are maximized, and that daily production plans are completed as well as maintaining quality standards. • Manage the on-time ordering and receiving of raw materials, and maintain an accurate stock control system. • Manage on-time delivery of planned orders/loads, and ensure subcontractors are managed according to their agreed SLA's. • To manage outstanding PODs within 60 days to approved level. • Manage maintenance infrastructure and ensure a preventative maintenance plan is in place and to keep machine downtime to less than 2% of operating hours. • Manage and coordinate all offsite warehousing requirements. • Manage the security infrastructure of the business, safety of staff, plant, and assets. • Lead the operational human capital interventions of the assigned business. • Categorize labor in bands with pay rates, and different entry level pay rates. • Identify projects that would enhance the performance of the operation. • Show year-on-year improvement on efficiencies by applying Lean techniques and plant redesign and layout improvements, as well as ongoing training and upskilling of staff. • Provide budgets for wage and salary staff. • Provide budgets for manufacturing and distribution expenses. • Partake in subcontractor contract finalisation. • Provide budgets for responsible site. • Budget for plant and vehicle requirements and together with management team, acquire assets once board approval is secured. • Assistant to 16.2 Appointee. • Coordinate safety or regulatory compliance activities with zero findings • Determine operational compliance with regulations or standards. • Analyse environmental regulations to ensure organisational compliance. • Measure site sales and profitability. • Manage absenteeism for salaried and waged staff. • Several measurements in place to monitor plant performance: • Productivity Efficiency, Cost per Piece, Pieces per head, quality performance. • Monitor, track and report on injury rates, RM and Finished • Goods value, loss time on plant, and utilisation. • Equip junior and middle management staff to perform at their peak. (Ability to do example, root cause analysis, time studies, etc.) • Upskill staff by offering inhouse training and multi-skilling operators. Ensure sufficiently trained operators to accommodate peak season • Have a communication structure in place. Daily shop floor meetings. Daily management meetings. Monthly ManCom meetings. Monthly Shop Steward's meetings. • Ensure Health & Safety rules and regulations are adhered to and take corrective or disciplinary action where necessary • Strive to be a world class manufacturing facility. • Analyse split of deliveries between own fleet and subcontractors, with the aim to at a minimum using own fleet for 50% of distribution. • Analyse lost time on plant with the aim of containing this to below 2%. Budget for replacement plant when necessary. • Plan labour requirement from Zero base, based on forecast for each month. Plan overtime requirements based on forecast and plan complexity. • Monitor additional issues to plan and engage with plant management, with the aim of keeping the additional issues to a minimum. Qualifications required • Relevant Bachelor's Degree (3 years) / NQF level 7 Experience required • Minimum of 10 years' experience • Must have manufacturing experience • Furniture Manufacturing experience would be highly advantageous Other Skills • Ability to work under pressure • Accountable for ones actions • Diplomatic and Assertive • Create a united and Disciplined workforce • Ability to handle large workforce 800 employees Apply Now
