NORTH-WEST UNIVERSITY (MAHIKENG CAMPUS) FACULTY OF NATURAL AND AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES SCHOOL OF AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES POSITION NUMBER: M000289 VACANCY: LAB TECHNICIAN PEROMNES: P11 EMPLOYMENT TYPE: PERMANENT APPOINTMENT PURPOSE OF THE POSITION Manage the farm and to meet requirements for teaching, learning and research for School of Agriculture. In addition, able to do other assigned functions from the School Director or Deputy Dean (T & L). KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Analysis of plant pathology and microbiology. Laboratory management and planning. Financial management (Budgeting). Participate in practical training (WIL). Liaise with academics, students & community around university. A National Diploma in Microbiology/Plant Pathology (NQF level 6). A minimum of two (2) years' technician experience in Microbiology/Plant Pathology. Professional registration with SACNASP or any related professional body. ADDED ADVANTAGE A member of a professional society. Functional / Technical Competencies (Knowledge and Skills) Soil, plant, plant pathology and microbiology techniques skills with 2 and above years' experience Establishing standard operational procedures (SOPs) Knowledge of instrumentation DNA molecular extraction KEY BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES: Good writing and presentation skill Able to work in a team. Adaptability/Decisiveness. Initiative/Perseverance. Interpersonal Skills. Knowledge of Organization Skills. Stress management. Valuing Service and Diversity. REMUNERATION The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
