Principal Engineer - Pinetown

Requirements:
  • Diploma/Degree in Mechanical engineering
  • 5+ years relevant work experience
  • Knowledge and experience of IATF core tools
  • Competent in using Microsoft Office.
  • Competent in using 3D CAD modelling software.
  • Basic manufacturing process knowledge & experience, i.e. CNC Tube & Plate
  • Bending, Laser cutting, robotics (welding, plasma cutting, polishing).
  • Basic skills in Project Management are a requirement
Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for developing concepts, prototypes, designs, and drawings of automotive accessories to manufacture such parts.
  • Create and test new product designs and formulate manufacturing specifications.
  • Conduct product research which includes identifying the needs and goals for a new product, from functional design to aesthetics requirements.
  • Create designs using CAD 3D software and fabricate models that can be tested.
  • Utilize software for FEA analysis.
  • Research and analyze different materials, manufacturing processes, design tolerances and other factors in the developmental process.
  • Conduct testing using both internal and external resources to meet customer specific requirements.
  • After refining and reviewing initial designs, the principal engineer must then deliver specifications and procedures to manufacturing teams in order that the product can be successfully manufactured.
  • Able to work efficiently to meet strategic goals and satisfy customer requirements.
  • Management of the design project team to achieve project objectives, milestones and timeframes.
  • To ensure hand overs of products, processes and documentation to production are conducted adequately communicating all critical characteristics and quality information appropriately.
  • New product development to meet customer specification and comply with both internal and external systems requirements within the agreed upon timeline.

Safety, Health & Environment:
  • Compliance with all safety, health and environmental management programme in the workplace (ISO14001).
  • Ensure compliance to SHE legislation and other requirements as stipulated in the OSHA Act.
  • Facilitate improvement programs to continually improve upon identified risks.
  • Implement and maintain robust 5S systems within the workplace.
Quality Management System:
  • Manage and implement the Maintenance Quality Assurance systems.
  • Improve employees awareness within the department of Quality Targets and Objectives
  • Compliance with the ISO Quality System as well as conformance to the ISO 9001 standard
Policies and Procedures:
  • Initiate and develop and product development procedures, protocols and work instructions etc.
Customer Relations:
  • Manage relationships with key customers.
  • Identify opportunities for improvements and make recommendations.
Supplier Relations:
  • Manage relationships with key suppliers.
  • Identify opportunities for improvements with key suppliers.
Financial Management:
  • Provide input into the budget process for Capex spend appropriate to the development team needs.
  • Initiate requests for CAPEX/Disposal/Transfers
  • Promote good Corporate Governance
