The purpose of the Risk & Safety Officer is to ensure the compliance, implementation, monitoring, maintenance, and evaluation of Southern Oil as an organisation. Maintaining the Health and Safety Management Systems for all SOILL sites Facilitating and performing Health, Safety and Environmental risk identification assessments, evaluation & development of safe work procedures with department managers Facilitating and reviewing investigation and recording of all accidents / incidents / near misses and ensure accurate reporting and mitigating measures are implemented Ensure that Safety Committee Meetings are held regularly as per OHSA requirements for all SOILL plants / Sites Ensure that Health & Safety Representatives conduct monthly inspections and submit required reports for feedback to management Ensure that external contractors adhere to the Construction Regulation requirements as well as any company specific specifications Audit all Contractors as per audit schedule, construction contractors every 30 days. Ensure for the continuous Health & Safety training of all employees for all SOILL plants and sites on topics pertaining to safe work procedures and practices Responsible for the effective management of all SOILL plants and sites security and external security service providers in order to comply with security requirements set out as well as Food Safety requirements. (Threat Assessment and Critical Control Points / Food Safety System Certification) Responsible to manage and maintain the onsite medical clinic and facility, equipment and medical consumable stock, including calibration of alcohol breathalyzer, all clinic equipment and health and safety department equipment Responsible to ensure that all SOILL staff pre-employment, annual / periodical and exit medicals are carried out for compliance with OHSA and food safety requirements Responsible for all staff medical records and the safekeeping thereof in the onsite clinic Handling all Department of Employment and Labour related visits and reporting Ensure that all SOILL plants and sites fire detection and fire suppression systems, including fire extinguishers, hose reels and fire hydrants are functional, compliant and certified as per SANS requirements Ensure that all SOILL plants and sites steam generators, pressure vessels, forklifts, lifting gear and mobile cranes are compliant and certified as per respective requirements of the OHSA Regulations Responsible to report back to management to on deviations identified and required actions to be taken on all plant areas Ensure that Health and Safety Reports and plant statistics are submitted to management / business analysis department on a regular basis for statistical records Responsible to ensure that all construction and installation processes of systems and new projects adhere to Health & Safety and Environmental standards, during and after the completion of projects Ensure management is up to date with current legislative requirements, provide guidance on compliance and system implementation Responsible for all plants Site Safety induction programs for all employees, contractors and visitors Health and Safety Participate in safety forums created by Soill for example safety meetings and safety talks Follow-up on any activities assigned through safety meetings / committees / representatives / management Report all safety incidents to the relevant people Attend safety education and refresher programmes Comply with safety policies and procedures at Soill Distribute safety information as and when required Wear protective clothing (where applicable) at all times Employee management and development Ensure overall compliance to relevant procedures and policies Ensure that all team members have clearly defined job profiles Regular goal review completed to assess achievement of results Support, coaching and mentoring is continuously provided to ensure that objectives are met Ensure that development plans are in place for each employee Appropriate allocation of resources to meet operational demands Ensure that events/activities taking place in the team are effectively communicated within team Ensure adequate succession planning in order to meet ongoing and anticipated business requirements Qualification and Experience NEBOSH / SAMTRAC / Diploma or degree in OHS Field Registered with South African Institute of Occupational Safety and Health Registered with South African Council for the Project and Construction Management Professions Emergency medical experience - Registered with the Health Professional Council of SA would be advantageous Advance first aid experience Advance firefighting knowledge OHS ACT Qualification 5 Years relevant working experience within a FMCG Environment/Factory Setup recommended Computer literacy Knowledge, Skills and Attributes Knowledge and understanding of the OHSA & Regulations, NFPA 36, SANS 10400 (Fire Extinguishers), SANS 10139 (Fire Detection) Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills Strong administration, organization and problem-solving skills Good interpersonal, negotiation and networking skills Good understanding of relevant legislation Understanding of management principles and ability to design and implement systems Ability to understand and deal with diverse cultures Ability to understand Safety culture Proven ability to manage health & safety, medical and security requirements Good Emotional Intellect: Skilled in identifying, assessing, and managing the emotions of oneself, of others, and of groups Energy and perseverance SOILL VALUES Ownership Accountability and Responsibility Respect We treat other's how we want to be treated Strengths-Focused Together we achieve more Excellence Creating a high-performance culture Transparency Open and Effective communication Integrity We walk our talk The opportunity listed has minimum requirements listed and management reserves the right to use additional or other relevant information as criteria for short listing.
