Sawmill - Dry Mill Manager (Boilers/Kilns), Nelspruit, Rneg + Ben
- Grade 12
- Diploma in Wood Technology and/or similar tertiary qualification (e.g., BTech (Wood Tech), National Diploma (Wood Technology), BSc (Wood Technology)
- Minimum 2-3 years’ experience as supervisor/supervisor in sawmill environment with contactable references.
- Fluency in English as official business language (reading / writing / speaking) (additional language/s advantageous).
- Computer literate, i.e., MS Excel & Word advantageous.
- Must be prepared to work shifts and/or overtime from time to time.
- Good knowledge of wood drying practices and controls.
- Knowledge of SANS Standards Advantageous (i.e., Structural Board Grading).
- Knowledge of OHS Act.
Responsibilities:
Assist in planning, coordination, and control of production processes in the Dry Mill.
Assist in ensuring the products are produced efficiently at the right costs and level of quality.
Market mix management.
Assist in decisions on how best to use the dry mill’s workforce and equipment to meet production goals –
Assist in managing the Dry Mill staff, including Kiln, Boiler and Stacking Departments
Assist in maintaining sound industrial relations with subordinates, peers, and superiors, working particularly closely with the Dry Mill Manager and Technical Manager.
Ensuring the kiln equipment is working within specifications, safely and efficiently.
Identifying and resolving kiln issues and notifying management of causes when identified.
Assist with ensuring quality control measures are met, e.g., Graders are grading accurately, and sampling is done on the structural dimensions of the lumber processed.
Assist in ensuring that daily production figures/downtimes etcetera are captured/submitted to the relative administration staff.
Assist in adhering to and enforcing all safety rules and regulations as stipulated by company procedures and relevant legislation.
Maintaining optimal performance of the Boilers, Kilns and Stacking on site.
Assist with stock takes when required.
Exposure to Planned Maintenance Systems beneficial.
