The incumbent is a Senior level member of our regional service engineering team, responsible for managing the L3 engineering team, and leading assigned projects and tasks, by driving or participating in regular customer-facing technical engagements, technical strategy, innovation, trouble shooting and root cause analysis, and continuous improvement. The role is essential to the success of the organization and must possess a range of technical, strong human interface and leadership skills, as well as business and commercial acumen to excel in this role. This role is based in Middelburg, Mpumalanga. Engineering Manager o Frequently, and pro-actively communicates and interfaces with customers' engineering and technical teams to discuss our Engineering capabilities, customer applications/requirements and coordinate project activities. o Possessed a broad knowledge of controls, power conversion, automation, data analytics and their application to the industries, equipment and customers that we serve. o Demonstrates strong project management independently, or in cooperation with others, to diligently collect information to form cost estimates, labor estimates, contingency plans, materials and supply chain lead times, prioritization and resource availability. o Proficient at collecting voice of the customer intelligence, and translating the information into actionable plans and results. o Stays up to date on current technologies in the industry as well as emerging technologies and trends. o Research and conduct competitive analysis, including pricing and product, of solutions offered by key competitors and customers in the local market. o Assist in overall product strategies and product roadmaps based on local markets. o Own and develop product requirements/ enhancements /functional specification by working with customers, field service engineering, sales, and other associated product stakeholders. o Well-versed in problem-solving, RCA and project management principles from training and experience. o Develops and maintains local service engineering processes and standards. o Prioritizes respective engineering group's projects, and manages category pipeline. o Actively assist in promoting us and our Service Engineering, and selling to customers, partners, and others. o Play a critical role in defining the overall product and growth strategy, by partnering with Business Development and Product Management. o Coordinate and execute new product introductions with other functional departments through Stage Gate Process and/or our commercialization process. o Demonstrates proficiency in planning and managing departmental budgets and project costs. o Execute work in effective and efficient ways to best serve customers and Computer Engineering or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience from e.g. UP, UCT, Wits, Stellenbosch. o Master's of Science or Business Administration a plus. • Experience: o >10 years of engineering experience. o >15 years of industry and related experience. o 10 years of experience in electric machines, drives, controls and/or systems. • Other: o Extensive and up to date knowledge in drives, controls and/or rotating electric machines. o Knowledge and experience in industrial and/or machine control theory. o Experience with mining machine systems applications including but not limited to electric mining shovels, draglines, haul trucks, rotary blast hole drills, and hydraulic excavators. o Demonstrated experience in managing the product lifecycle of systems and products. o Demonstrated success with the ability to identify key customer requirements and translate them into detailed product specifications for multi-generational products. o Direct experience in formulating, producing, and implementing product roadmaps. o Good business acumen and ability to cascade business goals to engineering objectives. o Strong written and verbal communication skills including presentation and demonstration skills to diverse technical and non-technical audiences. o Strong interpersonal skills working with technical team and senior leaders. o Strong critical thinking, problem-solving and troubleshooting skills. o Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. o Strong time management skills with the ability to multitask while coordinating multiple high level priorities. o Leverageable experience with engineering tools and systems, including simulators, modeling, virtual prototyping and statistical analysis. o Good ability to work with business
