Senior Estimator - Johannesburg

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Performance of projects is reviewed in terms of actual hours and quantities versus estimated hours and quantities with recommended changes to norms as required
  • Scope and design development charge orders are correctly identified
  • Change orders are tracked with correct submission and approval dates recorded

Internal:
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships and communicate across the business
  • Actively promote the company procedures and initiatives in line with company values
  • Engage with and promote functional & cross contract development including Networking/knowledge sharing
  • Maintain communication with respective focal points
  • Manage interfaces across functional and business boundaries

External:
  • Communicate and co-operate with external clients, stakeholders including Industry bodies, academia, market intelligence, relevant conferences, vendors, business acquisition and business development
  • Actions and decisions typically have a significant influence on the operational or financial results of the project and a moderate influence on those of the department
  • Errors may be serious with impact on project costs and schedule
  • Works under general supervision: broad instructions generally covering what is to be done, limitations, quality and quantity expected, deadlines and priorities are given
  • Additional instructions are given for few, difficult and unusual assignments
  • Work is subject to periodic review to ensure conformity to administrative objectives and project requirements as well as technical accuracy
  • Solves problems requiring investigation and interpretation
  • Exercises independent judgement in selecting and interpreting information and in recommending modifications to standard methods and procedures
  • No direct reports, but frequently services as a technical source to others, provides guidance to less experienced staff on work methods and procedures

PERSON SPECIFICATION
Qualifications:
  • Typically requires ISCED level 6 (Bachelors) Degree in a relevant technical or business discipline (or equivalent gained through relevant vocational training and/or industry experience)

Knowledge, skills, and experience:
  • Typically requires a minimum of six (6) years of progressive industry experience, with at least four (4) years in estimating positions
  • Good knowledge of estimating techniques and systems with a detailed knowledge of how these are applied
  • Detailed understanding of project management principles and techniques
  • Good understanding of Cost Management, Change Control, Planning & Risk Analysis & Management
