We are currently recruting for a qualified and experienced Senior Policy Officer to join our dynamic team in Johannesburg . Job Purpose: To undertake and initiate policy, advocacy, research, stakeholder engagement and reporting efforts across KT, as well as provide technical assistance, on behalf of the Policy Unit and the Head across all KT programmatic areas. (Education; Socio-economic Development; Local Government and Civil Society). Programme Coordination Supporting the lead development, planning and monitoring of the execution of policy engagement interventions across KT programmes Plan, coordinate, track and report on work plan documentation against agreed budgets Initiate the development of concept notes for inter-pillar integration initiatives for internal and/or external stakeholders Lead in the development, preparation and coordination of relevant high-level concept notes, documents and reports Support the implementation of inter-pillar activities and coordinate the circulation of internal action plans Undertake additional program and policy orientated administration as and when needed. Policy Advocacy Contribute towards innovative ideation on policy advocacy activities Provide periodic updates on policy developments and opportunities at provincial, national, regional (SADC, continental level) and global level Support the development of shaping effective strategies to communicate policies aimed at achieving relevant policy targets Provide required support for programmatic policy advocacy activities and overseeing the successful execution policy infiltration initiatives Drafting op-Ed's and relevant technical and high-level advocacy efforts and participating in high-level stakeholder engagements. Research coordination Identify emerging public policy and micro or macroeconomic trends and propose research interventions across KT programmes trends that require research intervention across KT programmes Facilitate knowledge sharing on policy-orientated research opportunities across the KT programmes. Initiate regular communication on policy research projects to internal and external constituents through different traditional and innovative channels such as, conferences, high-level engagements and knowledge sharing platforms Contribute to the review internal policy development and management framework and guideline for policy influencing processes and procedures and external policy engagements Lead the development and preparation of policy research products as well as identifying policy research opportunities such as abstracts, research reports, policy briefs, position papers, conference presentations etc.) Reporting Prepare and submit relevant program and project development reports for approval by the Policy Development Head Reporting on program activities and/or progress on a weekly and monthly basis Prepare and submit quarterly reports and compile the annual unit report for approval by the Policy Development Head. Stakeholder Management Engage in influencing policy interventions across program areas at a national level Engage and maintain good stakeholder relations and pursue continued working relationship with all key stakeholders, partners and CSO's, as assigned Establish and maintain good working relations with existing key government, academia, development sector and civil society stakeholders, as assigned Liaise with stakeholders on key programmatic initiatives and policy engagements as assigned Formal Qualification/Degree Masters in Public Policy, Social Policy, Development Studies or equivalent degree in Social Sciences or Humanities Advantageous additional postgraduate degree in Social Sciences or Humanities Work Experience Minimum of 5 years previous work experience in NGO sector, development or multilateral agencies Proven previous experience in public policy analysis, advocacy and/or research Traceable experience in budgetary management and stakeholder management Evidence of progressive growth with increasing responsibility in prior employment Demonstrated success in working in teams, multicultural and complex environments Valid driver's license with driving experience Job Related Knowledge Knowledge of research, event planning/management and project management. Knowledge of National and regional Policy Development frameworks, strategies and processes across KT program areas Understanding of national and regional regulatory environment and strategic policy and decision making platforms Understanding of key role players and stakeholders at national and regional level across KT program areas Leadership experience with overseeing team coordination implementing diverse programmes and/or initiatives Knowledge of existing national, regional and global level public policy discourse and emerging developments Familiarity with diverse sector key stakeholders, networks, strategic platforms Policy development processes and legislation relevant to KT programme areas Job Related Skills Strong interpersonal, relationship building and networking skills Proven ability to prioritise, complete assigned tasks in a timely manner and meet deadlines Ability to communicate technical research to policy makers in a non-technical manner Proven ability to manage multiple diverse assignments at a time Proven ability to conduct high quality work with minimal oversight Finance and budgeting skills Strategic planning skills Excellent Report writing skills Excellent verbal and written communication skills Market Related Apply Now
