Sous Chef - Cape Town City Centre

Our client is looking for a skilled and creative Sous Chef with a passion for culinary excellence. The ideal candidate should have experience in pastry and baking, inventory control, staff training, and management.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Head Chef in daily kitchen operations, including menu planning and food preparation.
  • Specialize in pastry and baking, creating innovative and delicious desserts and baked goods.
  • Manage kitchen inventory, ensuring adequate stock levels and minimizing waste.
  • Train and mentor kitchen staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performance team environment.
  • Oversee kitchen staff management, including scheduling, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions.
  • Maintain high standards of food quality, presentation, and hygiene.
  • Collaborate with the Head Chef to develop new recipes and culinary techniques.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and food hygiene standards.
  • Handle customer feedback and make necessary adjustments to meet customer expectations.

  • Expertise in culinary techniques, particularly in pastry and baking (Optional).
  • Strong inventory management and cost control skills.
  • Excellent staff training and development capabilities.
  • Effective staff management and leadership abilities.
  • Imaginative and creative approach to menu development and food presentation.

  • Specialization or significant experience in pastry and baking is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of kitchen operations and inventory management.
  • Experience in training and managing kitchen staff.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.

Qualifications:

  • Culinary degree or equivalent certification would be an advantage.
  • Proven experience as a Sous Chef or in a similar role.
