An experienced Tool & Die Maker from the Plastics manufacturing industry is required for a Plastics company on the East Rand Responsibilities Responsible for the maintenance and production of tooling for the production process Tool and Die Design: Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and CAD models to design and develop precision tooling and dies for plastic injection moulding processes, considering factors such as part geometry, material properties, and production requirements. Tool Fabrication: Fabricate tooling components and dies using a variety of machining techniques, including milling, turning, grinding, and EDM (Electrical Discharge Machining), ensuring accuracy, dimensional precision, and surface finish quality. Assembly and Fitting: Assemble and fit tooling components and dies to ensure proper alignment, functionality, and performance, conducting trial runs and adjustments as needed to achieve optimal moulding results. Tool Maintenance and Repair: Maintain and repair moulds, dies, and tooling equipment, performing routine inspections, troubleshooting mechanical issues, and implementing preventive maintenance measures to minimize downtime and ensure continuous operation. Quality Control: Conduct quality checks and inspections of finished tooling components and moulded parts to verify dimensional accuracy, surface finish, and adherence to specifications, addressing any discrepancies or defects promptly. Process Optimization: Collaborate with production teams and engineers to optimize injection moulding processes, making recommendations for tooling improvements, cycle time reduction, and cost-saving initiatives. Safety and Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols, regulations, and company policies while performing tooling operations Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of tooling specifications, maintenance activities, and performance metrics, generating reports and documentation as required to track tooling history and inform decision-making. Requirements Trade Certification: Qualified Tool and Die Maker Experience: 5 – 10 years working as a Tool and Die Maker in the plastic moulding industry, with expertise in tooling design, fabrication, maintenance, and repair. Technical Skills: Proficient in reading engineering drawings and CAD models, with strong knowledge of machining techniques, tooling materials, and heat treatment processes. Precision Machining: Demonstrated ability to operate manual and CNC machining equipment, including mills, lathes, grinders, and EDM machines, to produce high-quality tooling components with tight tolerances. Problem-Solving Skills: Excellent problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to troubleshoot mechanical issues, analyze root causes, and implement effective solutions to optimize tooling performance and production efficiency. Team Player: Collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team, communicating clearly and professionally with colleagues at all levels of the organization. Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to quality craftsmanship, ensuring that all tooling components meet or exceed quality standards and customer expectations.
