SASSA has approved a special COVID-19 Social Relief of Distress (SRD) Grant which will be made available for 8 months from August 2021 – March 2022. Note if you have already received the grant before August you will need to reapply for this grant as the grant has been reinstated.
What is the amount of the grant?
The grant pays out R350 per month payable from the date it is approved on.
What is needed for the R350 grant?
Applicants need to fit the eligibility criteria:
- SA Citizen/Permant residents/Refugees/Asylum seekers/holders of special permits.
- Must be unemployed.
- Not receiving any form of other income/grant/benefit from anywhere else.
- Between the ages of 18 and 60.

How do you check if your application was approved?
You can check if you have been approved for the SRD Grant by using the SASSA SRD website. If your grant says the month name and ‘Approved’ then it means your grant application has been successful.
