How to Apply(Reapply) for the R350 SASSA SRD (Social Relief of Distress) Grant

SASSA has approved a special COVID-19 Social Relief of Distress (SRD) Grant which will be made available for 8 months from August 2021 – March 2022. Note if you have already received the grant before August you will need to reapply for this grant as the grant has been reinstated.

What is the amount of the grant?

The grant pays out R350 per month payable from the date it is approved on.

What is needed for the R350 grant?

Applicants need to fit the eligibility criteria:

  • SA Citizen/Permant residents/Refugees/Asylum seekers/holders of special permits.
  • Must be unemployed.
  • Not receiving any form of other income/grant/benefit from anywhere else.
  • Between the ages of 18 and 60.

How to apply

The following details are required:

  • ID Number
  • Name and Surname
  • Gender and Disability
  • Contact Details
  • Proof of Address

SASSA is only accepting applications via the following digital channels:

WhatsApp

Send a message via WhatsApp to 0600 123 456 and select SASSA.

USSD

Dial *134*7737# from your mobile and then follow the instructions that follow.

Call Centre

Make a toll free call to 0800 60 10 11 and then follow the instructions.

How do you check if your application was approved?

You can check if you have been approved for the SRD Grant by using the SASSA SRD website. If your grant says the month name and ‘Approved’ then it means your grant application has been successful.
