RESPONSIBILITIES Gather information → Read work orders (delivery notes) to determine designated locations to pick up and deliver freight. Must be able to work extended hours during the week, including overnight stays. → Establish destinations, determine most appropriate routes and ensure goods arrive at destination on time Drive vehicles → Manoeuvre vehicles into position for loading and unloading → Arrange, assist with and perform loading and unloading operations using lifting and tipping devices to ensure goods are arranged for ease of delivery and safely secured to avoid damage → Observing strict safety requirements when loading and unloading vehicles Maintain vehicles and related equipment → Regularly inspect and control equipment (e.g. straps and winches) to identify wear and damage, including daily checklist, to ensure they can be driven safely → Monitor vehicle visually through gauges and instruments → Record and report breakdowns and/or defects immediately (report vehicle maintenance needs) Monitor processes, materials, and surroundings → Care should be taken not to damage bags, pallets or vehicles when loading and unloading material from vehicles → Ensure quality control standards are adhered to, including packing, wrapping, labelling, storing, etc. → Estimate weights to comply with load limitations and ensure safe distribution of weight → Ensure goods are stored and securely covered to prevent loss and damage Document, record and report information → Maintain necessary paperwork for goods received and delivery notes (check for accuracy) → Verify loading documents, check condition of goods and obtain certification of deliveries → All accidents, incidents and near misses regarding vehicles should be recorded and reported Comply with policies and procedures → Ensure health and safety policies are adhered to → Ensure correct appropriate PPE is used at all times and operating procedures are followed strictly → Manage general housekeeping in area of responsibility → Observe prescribed speeds, nearby traffic, travelling conditions and signals to ensure safe arrival of passengers and freight Required Skills Truck Driver: 2 to 3 years Candidate Requirements The Candidate Must: Have their own cell phone Be fluent in both English and Afrikaans Be punctual Be able to work under pressure Be experienced in operating a variety of large motor vehicles.
