Commercial Manager - Durban

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful applicant will be responsible for but not limited to:

General Responsibilities

Strategic Development and Implementation for the Marketing and Public Relations
  • Develops and implements the divisions strategy through the effective and efficient management of the division's resources
  • Plans and directs the divisions activities to achieve stated/agreed targets and standards for financial and trading performance, Quality, culture and legislative adherence
  • Establishes standards and guidelines for the Division to conduct its affairs.
  • Directs functions and performance via the management team
  • Maintains the divisions culture, values and reputation in its markets and with all staff, customers, suppliers, partners and legislative bodies
  • Reports to the Chief Executive Officer on the divisions operation plans and performance
  • Identifies opposition activities and recommends strategies to counter same
  • Exploits opportunities for strategic networking within the Group and externally
  • Allocates resources in a manner that will maximize the divisions ability to achieve its goal

Customer Care
  • To respond promptly and courteously to customer queries and requests
  • Ensure that customers receive a high quality of service
  • To understand that Job function is to serve customers as well as fellow employees with respect, understanding and commitment to achieve service excellence

Management of Sales Executives

  • Manage and mentor daily activities of National Sales Executives
  • Accompany sales executives and key account managers on regular customer visits
  • Responsible for meeting all agreed sales targets for GLO
  • Continually evaluate the sales strategy, recommend and implement changes where necessary
  • At all times ensure that the sales teams are adequately resourced
  • Arrange appropriate sales and product knowledge training for all sales team members and provide direction and motivation where required
  • Develop identified staff and implement succession plans

Customer Satisfaction

  • Manage the Columbus stainless steel Key Accounts in all respects
  • Arrange monthly meetings with the management of Columbus and ensure that all issues are resolved within an acceptable time frame
  • Assist Columbus with any business/ operational challenges
  • Participate in customer entertainment and functions as laid out in the Customer Entertainment Plan

Compliance and Administration

  • Ensure compliance with internal policies and procedures and legislation
  • Ensure adherence to SARS legislation
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legal prescriptions and constraints
  • Ensure Financial and administrative compliance
  • Ensure compliance with Group Policies, procedures are in place and any deviation from policy is dealt with decisively and promptly
  • Ensure that there is adherence with energy consumption limits
  • Ensure that there is adherence to Safety, Energy and Environmental Management Legislation and Policy
  • Researches and makes informed decisions/recommendations on energy-saving measures and compliance issues

Business Development and Plan Execution

  • Identifies business opportunities
  • Approves tenders within LOA
  • Concludes contracts/SLA's, monitors service delivery performance within LOA
  • Develops and measures all aspects related to customer relationship
  • Identifies and acquires project team resources for execution of projects
  • Leads project teams on strategic projects
  • Presents service offering to current and potential customers
  • Secures new business both locally/internationally
  • Monitors progress, revenue and margin achievement

People Management and Marketing and Public relationship

  • Provides leadership and direction to the operating Unit
  • Ensure that there is clear focus and co-ordination of all activities and that there are clearly communicated performance standards are objectives
  • Monitors and provides regular feedback on individual performance of immediate subordinates and takes appropriate where necessary

  • Delegates limits of Authority
  • Develops and implements Policies and ensures their adherence
  • Appoints appropriately qualified direct reports and ensures that they are fully utilised in terms of their skills set and experience
  • Acts as a coach and mentor to direct reports
  • Ensures that there are clear lines of communication within the Operating and outside at all times
  • Ensures that there are training and development plans in place for staff

Reporting and Administration

  • Accountable for the maintenance of concise records of all interaction with customers and sales team
  • Compile a record of all new sales concluded and complete monthly sales reports as required
  • Attend customer and sales training meetings/ sessions
  • Participate in compiling and managing commercials annual budget
  • Responsible for setting sales targets for sales executives and respective commission structures

Pricing
  • Design and review the annual standard tariff tables utilised at GLO

Initiative Development and Compliance

  • Partake in department ad hoc special assignments or tasks
  • Obtain relevant desired results for any ad hoc projects having prioritised it with other regular activities
  • Compliance with all company policies and procedures
  • Act in the best interests of the company and the department

Financial Planning and Administration

  • Develops annual budget for the Division for higher approval
  • Monitors costs and takes remedial action where any deviation occur
  • Authorizes expenditure up to prescribed limits
  • Monitor Cash-flow position and takes appropriate steps

REQUIREMENTS:

Qualifications
  • Relevant bachelor's degree / postgraduate degree in Marketing/ Supply Chain

Experience
  • 5 to 7 years experience within commercial
