Our client seeks to enhance the long-term effectiveness of their social impact investment operations through the appointment of a full-time Group ESG Officer. Covering new and established agribusinesses across three countries presently, this diverse challenge offers the chance to drive the Group's commitment to implementing an Environmental and Social Management System (ESMS) that complies with the highest international standards. Working closely with an external consultant, the Group ESG Officer will focus on implementing the ESMS plan and action specific projects to address any social and environmental concerns flagged through due diligence exercises. Ongoing monitoring and reporting on various projects and strategies will ensure that the business achieves its goal of not just talking about sustainable social and environmental impact but makes it a reality. Key areas of performance will include: ESMS documentation audit and review Training and capacity building overviews Monitoring and reporting Audit and compliance- adherence to the IFC Performance Standards 2012, World Bank Group General Environmental and Health and Safety (EHS) Guidelines, UN Guiding Principles for Business and Human Rights, ILO Core labour standards and other relevant international, national, and local legislation and policies. ESG budget management Project design and management This role will play a key part in enabling the group to articulate the impact, and understand and manage the ESG risks and opportunities, of the existing businesses, as well as new businesses added to the portfolio over time. Key competencies required: A relevant tertiary qualification At least 4-6 years of experience in the implementation of ESMS plans (African agribusiness exposure preferred) Learning agility- willing to learn and grow as frameworks etc. develop and change Excellent knowledge and use of statistical analysis, Microsoft Excel, etc. Strong team player with excellent communication skills A strongly analytical approach with the ability to interpret and explain data Ability to work remotely and in person with culturally diverse teams Willingness to travel to remote areas across Africa Willingness to collaborate and support on a variety of different initiatives and tasks Ability to work independently and pragmatically and to manage priorities and work to challenging deadlines Flexible and eager to work in a fast-paced environment Why should you consider this career opportunity?
