Role purpose // To provide legal support to the Crop Science Business Group and Enabling Functions as well as attending to concomitant legal duties as set out below, or as instructed by CGLT (“Country Group Leadership Team”), or senior management. Key responsibilities and tasks // Support Crop Science Business Group and Enabling Functions by providing advice and counsel in relevant areas of law to further the interests of the business, while bearing in mind the protection of the company's common law and statutory rights, license to operate, (intellectual) assets and interests. // Negotiate commercial and other applicable agreements, as well as drafting - as required. Consider and comment on agreements and amend as required. // Draft contractual amendments, termination notices, letters of demand, etc. // Support litigious matters as required (with support of appointed external counsel, where appropriate). // Negotiate repayments and initiate debt collection proceedings from a legal perspective. // Peruse new legislation and advise on its applicability to the company and specifically the business. // Advise on business strategies. // Coordinate and draft legal responses. // Manage and support external counsel. // Review third party Terms and Conditions of Trade where we are not successful in enforcing our standard T&Cs of Purchase. // Regularly provide training sessions for the business on legal issues of interest. // Manage anti-counterfeiting initiatives and matters in Southern Africa in conjunction with global colleagues and local counsel, as required. // Work in close cooperation with the Global Legal, Compliance and IP teams, key external stakeholders e.g. Government/regulators/trade associations, and // Provide leadership in anticipating, evaluating, and addressing potential business opportunities and legal challenges with South Africa and the region. // A legal qualification (LLB or similar) and admission as Attorney with at least 7 (seven) years post qualification legal experience. // Sound knowledge of Intellectual Property Law, antitrust law, law of contract and labour law required; in addition to which extensive legal crop science (crop protection, seeds, related services) industry experience would be recommended. // Sound communication abilities and commercial and negotiating skills. // Fully computer literate – SAP, Word, Excel, PowerPoint. // Fluent in writing/speaking/understanding English.
