PURPOSE The purpose of the Superintendent is to perform a technical and supervisory role on Water & Wastewater Treatment plants , ensuring effluent discharge compliance/water quality compliance , through process control plans, , resources management, sampling and testing , as well as working safely and meeting all client requirements Leads a team of Operations Supervisors and operators. RESPONSIBILITIES Business/Functional Management Ensure operational execution in their section aligns to organizational directives, as provided by Senior Superintendent / Operations l Manager. Execute operations for their section to support effective delivery of the project, in support of sustainability of the broader business. Financial, Commercial & Contract Management Monitor and control the cost of materials and equipment and recommend and implement cost-effective solutions and proposals for the intended project. Compare plant and labour cost against budget. Risk Management & Compliance, incl. ESG responsibility Ensure all financial, technical and operational risks and opportunities relating to their area of responsibility are identified, and mitigating actions implemented and monitored; as well as aligning all stakeholders as is relevant, for their area of responsibility; elevate risks as appropriate. Stakeholder Management (Internal/External) Ensure all financial, technical and operational risks and opportunities relating to their area of responsibility are identified, and mitigating actions implemented and monitored; as well as aligning all stakeholders as is relevant, for their area of responsibility; elevate risks as appropriate. SHEQ Management Implement a quality management system, quality plan and a quality improvement process for the area. Staff Management Ensure good employee relations are maintained i.e. by liaising with labour representatives. Ensure that labourers on site are kept informed of any issues that may concern them e.g. retrenchments, paid/unpaid public holidays, transport etc. by attending regular meetings with labour representatives etc. QUALIFICATIONS A bachelor's degree in environmental engineering/ civil engineering,/chemical engineering/ chemistry/ biology/ environmental science. Or equivalent. EXPERIENCE Minimum 5years experience operating a water/wastewater plant Knowledge of the Water Act , Water services Act , OHS act, Mine Health and Safety Act. SKILLS, QUALITIES AND ABILITIES REQUIRED A strong understanding of water treatment processes and wastewater treatment, is essential. Proficiency in operating and maintaining water treatment equipment and instrumentation Must be able to troubleshoot issues that arise during operations, such as equipment malfunctions, water quality fluctuations, or regulatory compliance challenges Must be able to register as a Class V as per DWA operator.
