Control Technician – PFG. PFG is the leading manufacturer of float glass in Southern Africa, as well as laminated glass, mirrors, and sealant products. The company produces 260 000 tons of float glass products per annum, supplying into both domestic and international building and automotive industries. Main job purpose: To execute small projects, do planned maintenance and investigate and resolve control system and related problems in Control Systems engineering, where required in the factory. Assist with ensuring optimum performance and reliability of control system equipment through implementation of scheduled maintenance and improvement projects. Solve engineering control system problems timeously and improve efficiency through implementation of system improvements and more effective fault-finding procedures. Provide support and service to production departments in terms of identifying and resolving control engineering related breakdowns and other problems in the factory. Perform all work according to standards and policies for the installation, modification, quality control, testing, inspection and maintenance of industrial control systems, including compliance to OSH Act and regulations, recommending changes to these standards where required. Provide technical expertise in industrial control systems to support other engineering. Implement agreed risk management strategies for management of risks associated with systems including system availability, hardware failure, and system security through management of spares, backups and recovery strategy. Use of SAP PM System for execution of planned maintenance strategies and documenting of day-to-day breakdowns and other control engineering activities. Ensure that all drawings, documentation and software licences are kept up to date by adhering to standard documentation change procedures to ensure the integrity of the data. Develop working procedures and associated documentation for maintenance and support of control engineering equipment. Training of engineering personnel with regards to control systems equipment, ensure adequate plant specific training, evaluate competency of people and develop training material where necessary. Responsible for reporting on control system performance, activities, projects and other initiatives within area of responsibility. Critical Job Requirements: Qualification(s): Grade 12. National Diploma in Electrical, Electronic or Instrumentation Eng. Knowledge: Technical Knowledge of PLC's and SCADA systems. Knowledge of Variable Speed Drives (VSD) and servo systems. Ethernet for Industrial control and IT. Industrial Network security. Microsoft Operating systems. Knowledge of process control for continuous control system. Industrial Control Networks (ControlNet).
