To support the production process with adequate levels of availability, operability (sustained production rates) and reliability relating to the mechanical aspect of the production and all ancillary equipment, including the legal statutory inspections, by ensuring that all engineering related breakdowns, problems and opportunities related to all equipment in the converting plant, are attended to in the shortest possible time and in the most effective and safest manner possible. To ensure that all mechanical equipment and installations comply with the OHSact and related regulations. This position reports to the Mechanical Foreman. It will require close cooperation with the production line Team leaders and other production staff, safety, risk control and quality control personnel Duties & Responsibilities: 1. Maintenance of all equipment assigned to the converting plant All planned maintenance completed for the month as per scheduled maintenance plan. Schedule attainment of 100%, as per AMIP system. Mechanical availability of all equipment is 95%. Obtain scheduled works orders from Pragma CMMS and complete assigned task to accepted engineering principles, according to manufacturers' specifications and within the assigned time and due dates. Ensure upfront that the required spares are available (e.g. pusher and T&T chains, embosser roller). Inspect and test the work that was done. Complete the works order and hand in to maintenance manager before end of workday. Make recommendations regarding improving work methods or modifications that will enhance availability. Do complete equipment overhauls as required by maintenance manager. Manufacturing parts, such as shafts, guards, brackets, etc, by means of machining, welding etc to accepted engineering standards. 2. Plant inspections All equipment is inspected on a regular basis i.e. daily, weekly or as determined by the maintenance manager Inspect all equipment in assigned areas of responsibilities, ensuring that all defects are noted for planned shutdowns or immediate repair or recommend a shutdown. Report problems found and open the required works order on the CMMS and address problems at the next opportunity. Do plant inspections on weekends according to inspection list, as required when on standby duties (provided production is operating). 3. Attend to breakdowns and equipment problems or setups resulting in poor production performance, quality or unsafe conditions. No reoccurring breakdowns. Breakdowns are dealt with immediately and equipment brought back into production with minimum of production time lost. Fault-finding is done promptly All equipment that has failed must get dealt with immediately and brought back to a working condition to ensure that it is available when it is required. All temporary repairs must be reported to the maintenance manager immediately and a follow up w/o opened. Perform standby duties and overtime as determined by maintenance manager. 4. General mechanical tasks Perform fitting tasks as listed to acceptable engineering standards. Fitting of keys, couplings, gears, pulleys and belts Fitting of bearings and shafts Marking, drilling, tapping and machining Respond to request for non-breakdown type of work the same day that it was requested. (Not necessarily complete the task on the same day) Hydraulic and pneumatic fault finding and repairs on systems and components Repairing of hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders Maintenance of gears, chains, belts and all power transmission equipment Replace and repair defective parts on the machines Recondition gearboxes. Attend and contribute in meetings as required. Discuss task with requester. Ensure that a works order has been opened for the request. Complete the task within a reasonable time frame (2 or 3 days). Complete works order immediately after completing the task. Do equipment installations as required. 5. Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) Work orders are created for all tasks, unless agreed otherwise with maintenance manager. All works orders are completed immediately when the work has been completed. Obtain or open a works order for the required work. Upon completion of task, complete the works order. Enter all relevant detail, such as time worked, spares used, cleared description of work done, etc. The requester must sign the works order off. Forward works order to maintenance manager. When drawing spares from the store the works order number must be entered onto the store requisition. Consult the CMMS system on a daily basis to view assigned worked and backlog 6. Safety and health Incidences are reported immediately. Work area, work shop and in plant is kept clean at all times and equipment is maintained in a good condition at all times. Monthly equipment safety inspections are done before end of the respective month. Comply with company and OHSact regulations. Assist with accident investigations when requested. Assist with drawing up of safe work procedures and job observations when requested. EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION Grade 12 and N6 with relevant trade papers or National Diploma in Mechanical field with 2 years post experience in a maintenance workshop as a fitter and turner. EXPERIENCE Fitting & Turning in a FMCG environment (preferably paper converting) with an emphasis on bearings, belt, pulleys, chains, sprockets, motors, gearboxes, conveyors, pneumatics, hydraulics, embossers, installation of equipment, compressors, maintenance techniques, lubrication. Machining, welding. Basic computer literacy. Fork truck license. The fitting experience will include, but not limited to, the following Fitting of keys, couplings, gears, pulleys and belts Fitting of bearings and shafts Marking, drilling, tapping and machining Hydraulic and pneumatic fault finding and repairs on systems and components Repairing of hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders Maintenance of gears, chains, belts and all power transmission equipment Replace and repair defective parts on the machines Recondition gearboxes.
