Opportunity/Job Purpose: MS is looking for a Senior Electronic Engineer, the role is to be based in Durban, South Africa. This position plays a critical role in driving the design, development, and manufacturing of electronic products. With extensive experience in industrial electronic design and firmware development, this position is responsible for leading engineering projects, managing a small team, and ensuring the highest standards of quality and reliability. The engineer will collaborate with Product Owners to deliver cutting-edge solutions that align with the company's values of simplicity, powered growth, reliability, innovation, and teamwork, ultimately contributing to the organization's strategic goals and market competitiveness. Role and Responsibilities may include but are not limited to: Design and Manufacturing Leadership: Oversee the complete design and manufacturing process of electronic products and components, with direct support from and to Product Owners and other engineers to ensure alignment with strategic goals. Provide expert technical guidance throughout the product lifecycle, fostering a culture of innovation and reliability. Advanced Problem Solving: Tackle complex engineering challenges proactively, applying advanced technical knowledge to devise innovative solutions that extend beyond the scope of general engineering and engineering after sales. Testing and Documentation: Lead the testing, evaluation and thorough documentation of product and component performance, ensuring compliance with industry standards and certifications, as they evolve. Support and enable certification procedures where required. Innovation and Development: Drive design and technological advancements in electronic systems of new product models and components. Champion innovative ideas that enhance product functionality and competitiveness. Team Leadership and Project Management: Manage and mentor a small team of electronic engineers, fostering collaboration within the team. Oversee project execution, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with budgetary constraints while managing relationships with suppliers and fabricators. Strategic Project Planning: Develop strategic project plans, timelines, and milestones, reporting progress and outcome to stakeholders effectively. Initiate and implement best practices for project management and engineering processes. Data Monitoring and Analysis: Monitor product performance data, assessing trends, and provide actionable insights to enhance product reliability and operational efficiency. Technical Expertise: Demonstrate exceptional firmware development capabilities across multiple programming languages, with ability to quickly adapt and transfer knowledge to new languages as needed. Proficient in embedded MCU programming, designing, evaluating, and testing prototypes, while creating and validating component specifications. Lead technical discussions and provide guidance on circuit design, PCB layout, and systems integration. Bachelor's degree in Electronic Engineering, with 8-15 years of relevant experience; a Master's degree is highly desirable. A minimum of 7 years of industrial electronic design experience, showcasing a strong portfolio of successful projects. Proven ability in firmware development, with a solid understanding of multiple programming languages and readiness to learn new ones. Proactive, driven, and innovative mindset with strong focus on problem-solving and project delivery. Demonstrated experience managing small teams of engineers or leading projects effectively. Strong aptitude for technical writing and clear communication of complex ideas. Expertise in designing circuit schematics and PCB design, including proficiency with microcontrollers. Solid knowledge of circuit simulation tools and methodologies. Experience with CAN (Controller Area Network) or similar is required. Willingness to travel intermittently and hold a valid driver's license Interest in energy storage systems and power electronics is preferred.
