Unique Personnel boasts over 50 years (established in 1970) of personnel and staffing experience, so it's not surprising that even though our main focus has been providing on South African Staffing Solutions, we now recruit internationally for over 5000 clients Duties & Responsibilities Develop,implement and maintain an effective Safety, Health and Environment management system in accordance with regulatory requirements, industry best practices, and company policies. Lead the development and implementation of safety, health, and environmental policies, procedures, and guidelines to promote a safe and healthy work environment for all employees. Conduct regular inspections, audits and risk assessments to identify potential hazards, unsafe conditions, and environmental impacts, and develop and implement corrective and preventive measures. Coordinate safety training programs for employees, including new hire orientation, safety inductions, and ongoing training sessions on topics such as hazard identification, emergency response, and personal protective equipment(PPE) usage. Ensure compliance with relevant occupational health and safety (OHS) legislation, environmental regulations, and other applicable standards, and maintain up-to-date knowledge of regulatory requirements and industry trends. Investigate incidents, accidents, near misses, and environmentalspills, and prepare detailed incident reports with root cause analysis and recommendations for corrective actions to prevent recurrence. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including production, maintenance, engineering and HR, to iintegrate safety, health, and environmental considerations into all aspects of operations and decision-making processes. Manage relationships with regulatory agencies, external auditors, and other stakeholders to facilitate regulatory inspections, permits, and compliance reporting requirements. Monitor and analyse key perfomance indicatos (KPIs) and metrics related to safety, health, and environmental performance, and prepare repoets for management review, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions as necessary. Champion initiatives to promote a culture of safety, health, and environmental stewardship among employees, contractors, and suppliers through communication, engagement, and recognition programs Experience & Qualification Bachelor's degree or higher in Occupational Health and Safety Environmental Management or a related field. Proven experience (5 years) in a similar role managing safety, health, and environmental programs in a manufacturing environment. In-depth knowledge of South African OHS legislation (e.g. Occupational Health and Safety Act) and environmental regulations, as well as relevant international standards and best practices. Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage employees at all levels of the organization to drive a culture of safety and environmental stewardship. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to prepare and deliver presentations, reports, and training materials effectively. Analytical mindset with the ability to conduct root cause analysis, risk assessments, and trend analysis to identify patterns and drive continuous improvement. Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and experience working with safety management systems. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as collaborate effectively within a team environment.
