Sommelier (WSET Level 2) - South Africa

As a sommelier at our lodge, you will be responsible for managing our wine program and providing exceptional wine service to our guests. Your duties will include curating and updating our wine list, recommending wines that pair well with our menu offerings, conducting wine tastings and educational sessions for guests, and ensuring proper wine storage and inventory management. You will work closely with our culinary team to create memorable dining experiences and uphold our lodge's standards of hospitality. Wine Selection and Procurement: Curating and maintaining a diverse and balanced wine list that aligns with the lodge's culinary offerings and guest preferences. Establishing relationships with wine distributors and producers to source quality wines at competitive prices. Managing wine inventory, ensuring adequate stock levels, and overseeing proper storage conditions. Wine Service: Providing attentive and knowledgeable wine service to guests, including suggesting appropriate wines based on their preferences and meal choices. Presenting and pouring wines, adhering to proper service techniques and etiquette. Conducting wine tastings and educational sessions for guests to enhance their understanding and appreciation of wines. Food and Wine Pairing: Collaborating with the lodge's culinary team to develop wine pairings that complement the flavors and styles of the dishes on the menu. Offering recommendations to guests on the best wine selections to enhance their dining experience. Guest Interaction and Education: Engaging with guests to discuss wine preferences, answer questions, and provide information about different wines, regions, and production methods. Educating guests about wine etiquette, proper tasting techniques, and wine culture. Training and Staff Development: Training and mentoring restaurant staff on wine knowledge, service standards, and selling techniques. Conducting regular tastings and workshops to enhance staff understanding and appreciation of wines. Wine Program Management: Developing and implementing wine promotions, special events, and wine-focused experiences to attract guests and enhance the lodge's reputation. Analyzing sales data and guest feedback to make informed decisions about adjusting the wine program and offerings. Maintaining Standards: Ensuring compliance with legal regulations and guidelines related to alcohol service and sales. Upholding high standards of cleanliness, organization, and presentation in the wine cellar and service areas. WSET Level 2 or 3 needed Minimum 5 years in a fine dining and star graded environments Salary negotiable DOE Live in Meals on duty 6 weeks on, 2 weeks off Medical aid and provident fund contributions Apply Now
