OPTICAL FIBRE CABLE PRODUCT ENGINEER (Design & Development)– Midrand Experience designing optical fibre cables. Qualifications & Experience Degree in Optical Engineering, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, or other relevant Technical / Engineering fields. Extensive knowledge in optical fibres covered by International Telecommunication Union (ITU-T) G.65-series of recommendations. Working experience in materials technology relevant to cable manufacture. Working experience in optical fibre cable installation and testing techniques. Experience working in ISO controlled development process. Excellent knowledge of software tools (MS Office and CableBuilder). Knowledge in European requirements for Construction Product Regulations (CPR), relevant to cables. Detailed knowledge of relevant standards such as ASTM, ANSI, ISO, GMP, ITAR. German advantageious Duties Design and develop fibre optic cables based on International Standards and requirements given by the customer's application. Work closely with Process Engineers, Test Technicians and Production personnel to implement the necessary engineering standards required to manufacture a quality product. Work with the Sales and Marketing team to translate technical requirements by customers into existing products and propose new product ideas. Coordination of prototype production and prototype deliveries, including First Article Inspection. Coordinate and lead testing and inspection required by Certification Authorities. Participation in international trade shows and conferences. Working with Process Engineering to develop production processes for new products. Technical documentation of products, solutions, and development projects. Design of performance studies, implementation of the experimental tests, and documentation. Act as subject matter expert for specific techniques, processes, and equipment.
